Cold Kiwi, September 2005Myself, Steve, Ken, Mick, and Warren were heading south by 11am on Friday. No sooner out of town and I'd lost a nut (another I hear you ask). Yes. It was the same one I had to replace at Coromandel. Had to turn around at the bottom of Awakino hill and left Steve and Ken to carry on while the other 2 were mucking about. Knew they would catch up before long. Steve was on Julie's bike as he was scared he would drop his one. Told us he wanted to give Julie's a good run. (We know the real reason).
Caught up with everyone at Taumarunui then on our way again. All following Steve for a while, then only Steve and myself left taking our time.
Found out why Steve had slowed down when arrived at Ohakune. He has switched to reserve at the National Park and didn't know how much
reserve holds.A snack and a bite at Ohakune and we were off to the rally. Arriving early saw us get a good campsite under trees. Quickly set up and time to replenish the fluid levels. A few hours later saw Rosko, Alan and Vi arrive in the dark. Slow trip for them as Alan had worn his tinted visor and was having trouble seeing in the dark. Tents up, airbed pumped up and it was back to keeping one self from dehydration. A late night was had by all with a lot of stories told by our neighbouring Jaffas.
Early to bed (not) early to rise (yes) if I can't sleep no one else should. A beautiful day starting with a light frost and lots of sunshine.Afternoon activities were enjoyed by all. Hill climb, Helmet race, Burn out. 5 O'Clock Rev. (Te Kuiti boys showed the rest how to do this right). Another night of entertainment from the Jaffas as well as 2 excellent bands on both nights. Another early morning and beautiful day saw us packing up early (except for Alan and Vi). Push starting Julie's bike (Steve didn't want to own it) and were on our way. Quick stop at Ohakune to wait for Alan and Vi. Then off. Fuel stop at Taumarunui and home. Ray |
